Have you heard the news? The Hills reboot is coming! I first heard about this a few months ago on Instagram and being the huge nostalgic that I am, I was obviously pretty intrigued.
So what does a Hills reboot look like, exactly? Well for one, much to my disappointment, Lauren Conrad, Lo Bosworth and Kristin Cavallari will not be returning for the sequel. And I mean, fair enough, really, they’ve “matured”, I get that. The cast will, however, include Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Stephanie Pratt, Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port, Jason Wahler, Frankie Delgado and Brody Jenner. Also tagging along for the ride are their respective partners and children and most interestingly, Mischa Barton.
How does Mischa fit into all of this exactly? Well, The OC television series actually served as inspiration for the creation of Laguna Beach and subsequently The Hills. It’s kind of a long shot incorporating the actress into it, but it certainly fuels my tendency to resort back to re-watching television series set in the early to mid-2000s, instead of embracing present-day options. No matter how hard I try to enjoy them, I just cannot help comparing Netflix originals to shows like The Hills, The OC, Gossip Girl, Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls. Is it because I’ve simply outgrown the age bracket? I don’t think that’s it. And I mean, in all seriousness, what kind of joke of a show is Riverdale?
So as you’ve probably gathered, first and foremost, I am excited about this series for nostalgia’s sake. That being said, I also can’t wait to see how everyone has changed since settling down with their partners and having children. Being at that exact stage in life myself, I’m glad that’s something the show producers have decided to incorporate into the show. In a lot of ways, I feel like in today’s society Jordan and I are viewed as being fairly young to do this. We’re in our late twenties, so we are most certainly not, but nevertheless, I’m glad that something as silly as a pseudo-reality show reboot has accommodated for this aspect of life. They could’ve always just hired a brand new cast of present-day cool kids and Instagram influencers and run with the same format and I’m so glad they didn’t.
