We are already halfway through February, and once again at the start of a new week. Now that I’m a stay-at-home mum, I pleased to say that I no longer hate Mondays. In fact, I kind of look forward to them. Something about the beginning of a new week just makes me feel motivated. 2020 Marns is all about fresh starts, as many of them as I can get.
Valentine’s Day was last Friday, which was such a lovely way to kick off the weekend. To celebrate, we ended up having salmon pasta with creamy garlic sauce – the same one we had last year. I love cooking new food, but I feel like I do it often enough that I felt ok choosing something ‘safe.’ It was actually a collaborative effort in the kitchen which was quite nice. Let’s just say that sometimes I’m good at multitasking and sometimes I’m not…
I did, however, make something new for our Valentine’s Day dessert. These red velvet cupcakes were just divine and I was really happy with how they came out. Originally I had planned to just use traditional white icing, but as per usual I had to get the pink food colouring out, didn’t I? The ombre effect was actually a complete accident, so I was feeling pretty pleased with myself with the finished result. If you have been reading my blog and/or have known me for a long time, you will know that my love for cupcakes has been well documented. My ability to make them look good, not so much. This was obviously a huge milestone for me.
Jordan and I both exchanged cards and I even got a box of my favourite chocolates! The R2D2 card I got Jordan was a huge hit. On a sidenote, I never thought I would see the day where I would become a Star Wars convert, yet here we are.
If you celebrated Valentine’s Day, I hope it was lovely, your weekend as well. The rest of mine was spent trying to exercise self-control before inevitably giving in to eating more cupcakes.
