tiara & skirt, eBay; bodysuit, Forever New; necklace, gifted; boots, Sportsgirl
Last weekend, I threw a 90’s style birthday bash at my house to celebrate my 23rd birthday (milestone, I know). If you read my earlier post, you would understand how excited I was about planning this. In the weeks leading up to the party, I spent a lot of time researching ideas and sourcing all kinds of 90’s bits and pieces. Maybe it’s all the free time I’ve had lately (I’m only working on a casual basis at the moment) but I found it was a really great outlet for me to put all of my pent up creativity into. That and I love the 90’s. A lot.
For my outfit, I decided on going as a 90’s prom queen with a grunge twist. While I tossed up the idea of going as Cher from Clueless, I felt like this was a little more me. I fell in love with the skirt which I found on eBay, and ended up teaming it up with a velvet bodysuit (which I wore off the shoulder), a choker necklace and black combat boots. The tiara was the final touch, which I felt really completed the ensemble. My best friend Luke went as a boy band member, and I still can’t decide whether he looked more like a Backstreet Boy or an NSYNC dude.
I used the dining table as the main food location, which in addition to classic party snacks, also included curly straws, bubble blowers and mini slinkies. I strung a double layer of string above the table which had images of celebrities and popular TV shows from the ’90s, which I attached using pegs.
I set up another smaller table which had a few different bits and pieces on it; babysitters club books, a Barbie doll still in the packaging from 1993, pokemon cards, party bags and disposable polaroid cameras. I added a few different toys and things in other spots around the house as well, just to give it that 90’s touch.
Saffron’s look was inspired by Gwen Stefani.
Kurt Cobain sans wig.
I made these cupcake toppers using images of CD covers from the ’90s.
Bum bags and glow sticks are never a bad idea!
Yeah, there was breakdancing…
I’m so obsessed with my Instax, I only wish I took more pictures because I definitely bought enough film!
My brother dressed as Tim ‘The Tool Man’ Taylor. You can’t see it in the picture but he was wearing a tool belt!
All up it was an amazing, very drunk night. I loved how into the theme everyone got, my friends are the coolest.
