The official photos from my 21st birthday party are finally here! As I mentioned in my previous post, my 21st Birthday party was a couple of weeks ago. In addition to Kodak cameras, I also hired an official photographer to capture the night, so I could spend the evening catching up with friends and family without the added pressure of trying to get as many photos as possible. I’m so excited to share the results with you, I couldn’t be happier with how the pictures of my 21st birthday party turned out. All photos were taken by the extremely talented Brian Purnell, you can check out more of his work here. I hope you enjoy!
My 21st Birthday party was held at Beavs Bar in Geelong. If you are a local I highly recommend them – they have a great function room that’s detached from the main bar and is a decent size. It didn’t cost anything to rent the space, we just paid for the bar tab and hired an external caterer for canapes.
Beavs Bar have also have a projector screen in their function room, so I was able to put together a slideshow of various photos of myself over the years. I always find at 21st’s that you see the slideshow repeated a million times and I wanted mine to be long enough so that my guests wouldn’t be seeing the same pictures over and over. I also didn’t want it to be completely about me either, so I included some of my favourite music videos to break up all the childhood snaps! As for music, I made a playlist on my iPOD and just hooked it up to their sound system.
For my birthday cake, I opted for cupcakes instead and ordered chocolate cupcakes with pink glitter icing from a lovely local business I found on Facebook. I did consider making my own, but ended up deciding it would be too time consuming to bake enough cupcakes for 60-80 people. I also wanted them to look good…
In terms of my outfit, I was really lucky in that I found “the dress” on ASOS Marketplace well in advance of the date of my 21st birthday party. From memory, I’m pretty sure I ordered it in May and it arrived in early June. Thankfully it fit really well, but I did wear a half slip skirt I found at Big W underneath the dress. The tulle skirt was a little see-through so I felt like I needed some extra coverage and it certainly wasn’t a bad thing considering how cold it was!
My favourite thing about the dress was the gold embellishment on the front, it just felt like a dress that was a little bit different from anything else I could find at a chain store. I honestly felt like a fairy princess in it. I teamed my dress with a pair of simple nude heels from Wittner.
The Kodak cameras were a hit!
I had my hair curled at the salon that my best friend Katie’s sister works at and my hairdresser even made a special guest appearance at my party! My make-up was done by an old primary school friend at Napoleon. It was actually my first time getting my make-up professionally done and it certainly won’t be the last!
I had a really good mix of old friends and new plus most of my extended family at my 21st Birthday party. It was so nice.
My best friend Luke made a speech and it was hands down the best speech of the night. I felt so honoured that he overcame his fear of public speaking to absolutely tear down the house with his beautiful words.
All up, it was the best 21st Birthday party I could have hoped for and I had the best night ever with all of my friends.
