After a majestic 2 days in London, we jetted off to Croatia on a Wednesday morning. Our flight was at 7:15am but the cabbie was insistent he pick us up at 3:45am. All up, the trip took about 20 minutes, so we spent a good 3 hours at Heathrow walking around. Luckily we had an awesome cab driver who told us all about how popular electric cars are in the UK. Who knew!? After a 4 hour stopover in Sweden (don’t ask, the flight was cheap) we got a little crazy at the airport. Sleep deprivation and too much sugar, I think! After our second flight, we arrived in Split, Croatia at about 6pm. Our friendly landlord, Boz – or Bozo as we liked to refer to him as – picked us up and took us for a scenic drive through Kastela, which is a small town just outside of Split and where we would be staying for the week. After driving by tons of locals casually strolling in bathing suits and drinking by the water, we arrived at our apartment. The above photo was taken from the top of our balcony.
After Boz offered to drive us to the supermarket, we hastily put together some ingredients for a meal. It kind of felt like we were on an episode of My Kitchen Rules as we did not have a lot of time. Coupled with literally everything being in Croatian, not understanding the currency conversion and their lack of hummus, we did what we could and the above is the result. Not too shabby!
We had breakfast on the balcony the next day, we spent a lot of time out there actually. The view was just too beautiful.
We went for a walk down the main road in the afternoon and had a look around. The sun didn’t really come out properly until late in the afternoon on most days.
These flowers were everywhere! Such a beautiful colour.
Later in the afternoon, Boz took us into Split, the second largest city in Croatia and the reason for our visit; Ultra Music Festival Europe! We spent most of the evening exploring the main area which was full of restaurants and beautiful old buildings.
We found a nice little spot to eat at in the main square which was perfect for people watching.
This gnocchi was out of this world, amazing.
This extremely small human was playing soccer with everyone who walked past him, he was adorable.
Of course we got ice cream and yes we got two scoops.
Afterwards, we headed home and went to sleep happy and well fed.
