My Top Picks for Dealing with the Blues

My Top Picks for Dealing with the Blues

My top picks for dealing with the blues and/or recurring teen angst/melancholy. Provided below are some hints and tricks to ease the pain.

LISTEN TO ANGSTY MUSIC
As much as it pains me to say it, I truly don’t know how I would survive without music. It’s nothing you haven’t heard before and is something that everybody can relate to on some level. Except maybe my father. So whatever your problem, whether it be minuscule and insignificant (like most of mine) or mammoth and daunting (like some of mine) listen to music that you can hear the emotion in.

EAT CHOCOLATE
Everybody knows that chocolate cures virtually anything, or at the very least numbs the pain. I don’t even eat chocolate very often, but even I know this. So eat chocolate and don’t feel guilty for doing so. You need it. Unless of course, you eat chocolate all the time. Then you don’t need it and you should feel guilty.

BITCH ABOUT SOMETHING UNRELATED
Have a bitch with one of your pals or best friends about something completely unrelated. This will allow you to relieve all of that stress without having to reveal your innermost insecurities/embarrassing thoughts or utter heartbreak to anybody. My top picks for bitching include your weight/lack of dietary discipline, not having enough money and the weather.

GO ON WE HEART IT
Naturally, We Heart It possesses several cures for the blues, it being the ultimate “inspiring pictures and stuff” website most of us seem to rely quite heavily on. My top picks for tags are “funny” and “quote”; so type either in and see what it comes up with. You’ll either be crying with laughter or crying with pure clarity. There are some big ass quotes on there, so be prepared for these, as they will make your problems look pretty minuscule in comparison. And when I say your, I mean mine.

GO SHOPPING
When I say go shopping, I mean the intense kind of shop that requires an entire day of your time. You think clothes, you breathe shoes, you see accessories. Tell me how many hours you can go without thinking about your problem/s, and my guess is it’ll be more than one. When the day is over, you’ve got the rest of the evening to be concerned with your aching feet.

GO FOR A WALK
Take a long walk and give yourself a chance to think things through. Everything seems better in the fresh air and you can even combine this with listening to angsty music, which is a plus. Bonus points for those who do so in the rain, in a tank top and kick every puddle in sight. I never did this…

WASH YOUR HAIR
Believe me when I say that it is so much easier to be upset about something when you have clean hair. I don’t care if you’re miserable and all you want to do is curl up in a little dirty ball and sleep the pain away; get yo’ ass in the shower and wash your damn hair. You could do with a cleanse as well. It’s much nicer to feel pretty when you’re moping, and that’s the truth.

LOOK AT THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE
Probably the most important thing you can do, by far, is look at things in perspective. This is something I’m constantly telling myself to do, yet not always being able to put into action. Take everything into consideration. Maybe he didn’t text back because his phone battery died. Or MAYBE, you’re a pain in his ass and you need to give him some space. However, don’t confuse “looking at things in perspective” with “jumping to ridiculous conclusions”, because let’s face it, we’ve all been down that path and it’s best not to return to the scene of other such unfortunate misunderstandings/humiliating demonstrations of character.

Ultimately, it’s important that you realise that you’re capable of getting through whatever it is, regardless of how small or life-altering your problem is.

It’s only as bad as you let it be.

Lovely words and I agree with you on everything except I would eat ice cream over chocolate ๐Ÿ˜›
It should never pain you to say you couldn’t live without music. I got asked the other day by a friend (weird talks) about if I had to live my life without getting intimate or without music, which one would I choose. I said the former of course because music can express any type of emotion and you can relate to so many songs and their lyrics. Enough rambles. Nice blog ๐Ÿ™‚
