On Saturday I went to Big Day Out for the first time and it was incredible. I’ve been to a few music festivals over the past year, but I’ve never been to one with the kind of electricity in the air that I experienced at Big Day Out 2013.

To say I was excited in the car on the way up would be a massive understatement. I was headed to see some of my all-time favourite bands; including the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Killers & Crystal Castles. That in itself was pretty overwhelming.

These kids were dare devils!
Tree climbers at the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
The entire experience of the day is one I will hold on to forever. From the crazy banshee dancing at the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (myself included) and Crystal Castles’ haunting set to making new friends in the unbelievably long toilet queue. Not to mention listening to the Killers re-hash my entire adolescent experience in each song, groups of ecstatic Red Hot Chilli fans chanting along to the chorus of all their biggest hits and finally, the train back into the city stuffed into carriages like cattle, with the occasional smart-assed comment from passengers eager to keep spirits high in that sweaty 8 minute train ride.
What a day.
