After spending so much time with Jordan’s family over Christmas, I am currently feeling inspired by all things English. From the countless cups of tea, “hiya’s” and habitual evening rituals, I find myself missing all of it. I have summarised a few of my favourite things below.
All Things English
♥ Jordan’s 80-something-year-old Grandad started watching The Crown on Netflix during our stay and became absolutely obsessed with it. Binge-watching is for all ages, it would seem. Since returning home, we too have become obsessed with it and am currently up to season 2. We’re trying to limit ourselves to one or two episodes a day though, so we can make it last as long as possible.
♥ Eccles cakes! The first time I tried these I was not particularly moved by them but they have since grown on me. We were lucky enough to get our hands on some thanks to Jordan’s aunty who stashed them in her luggage. If you don’t, however, have a local available, you can order them online here…
♥ At first, it was just on in the background. But then we started paying attention to a Christmas special of The Great British Bake Off and got hooked. It’s not just a baking show, they give you a little history lesson too! I actually looked into getting Foxtel (for the UK channels) but unfortunately, it’s just not in the budget for us. I guess I’ll have to find another way to enjoy my new favourite cooking show.
♥ Noel Fielding being on literally all the shows. Bake Off, Taskmaster and Never Mind the Buzzcocks just to name a few. He cracks me up.
♥ Grandad’s morning routine: reading the newspaper with breakfast (cereal and then toast with marmalade) and then a spot of gardening.
♥ Sandwiches always served with a side of potato chips.
There are so many more things I could list but I won’t as it’s mainly more food-related items. Is there anything you would add to this list? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
